An explosion of obesity and ADHD in America can be partially traced to the amount of time Americans sit in front of a TV passively watching “entertainment.” It’s been going on for over fifty years. The obesity comes from eating in front of the TV and the short attention span stems from most shows being over in 22 minutes (plus commercials) and then it’s followed by another, then another, and another…for hours. Never a dull moment. Silence has become uncomfortable.
The Oregon State University Extension has a few words to say about this; like how to slim down our bodies and de-fat our brains by limiting the amount of screen time that offers only shallow entertainment. It suggests we first start with our kids. Click here.
