As sure as elections are about money as much as they are about issues, Oregon’s progressive democratic Senator Jeff Merkley is off and running for re-election, shaking hands and seeking campaign contributions even though he’s not up for re-election until November of 2014. Since Citizens United came cascading down from the U.S. Supreme Court, the rules of the political road have changed, and freshman Senators especially are in the cross hairs of big republican PACs run by some very familiar conservative names.
