A Beginning Meditation Workshop will be taught on Thursday, August 5 from 6:30 to 8:00 pm at the Newport Chamber of Commerce Meeting Room.
Meditation is an ancient art that has many benefits for people today. It reduces stress, lowers blood pressure, soothes emotional mood swings and gradually brings practitioners a sense of peace and well-being. It is a gift to oneself of amazing self-care, inner exploration, ancient wisdom and profound possibilities.
This workshop will guide you through the essential first steps of entering inner awareness. You will learn meditation postures, the importance of breath, how to regulate it, and how to calm your mind while expanding your awareness. This class is open to anyone who wants to learn how to meditate or is looking for a systematic way to practice. During the workshop, participants will be seated and practice in chairs. Comfortable clothing should be worn.
The instructor, Rennie Maguire, has practiced a variety of meditation methods for more than a decade. She is certified to teach by the Institute of the Himalayan Tradition in St. Paul, Minnesota.
The cost of the class is $40. This includes two follow-up practice sessions on August 11th and August 19th from 6:30 to 7:15 pm. Anyone who has previously taken the workshop is welcome to attend the follow-up sessions without charge. Call to reserve space.
