The Toledo City Council has set August 10th as the deadline for applications to be filed for those wishing to serve out the unexpired term of Mary Young who left the area last month.
Two candidates have filed applications, Ralph Gretzmahcer and Donald Lee. A third person has picked up application papers and indicated to City Manager Michelle Amberg that she will follow through. Her name is Francisca Frankie Trujillo-Dalbey. who would likely create a lot of name tag envy among the other councilors should she be selected. Whatever number of candidates file, they will be interviewed by the City Council on August 18th. A winner will be announced at the end of the interviews. Whoever that person turns out to be will be sworn in September 15th. That person will have to run in their own right in 2012 if they wish to continue serving on the council.
To qualify for the office of city councilor, a candidate must be a registered voter within the Toledo City limits and have continually resided in Toledo for 12 months, since July 7, 2009. Interested persons are invited to pick up an application at Toledo City Hall, 206 N. Main Street, or call Toledo City Recorder, Teresa Jenkins, at (541) 336-2247 ext. 212.
Those who are not successful at succeeding former councilor Mary Young, may also file as a candidate for city council and have their name placed on the November ballot. Deadline to file one’s candidacy is August 24th. The same filing procedure applies.
