Toledo is “Painting the Town” with its annual Summer Festival kicking off Thursday morning at 11am, starting with, of all things, a sidewalk chalk show. There will be a carnival, logging show, crafts and great food booths, and a big Toledo-style fireworks show Saturday night.

After the chalk show awards are given Thursday at 6:30pm, it opens the flood gates for the big grand opening of the festival on Friday, at 6pm. Kids Parade starting at the Toledo Library winds down to the end of Main Street. Festival opens officially at 6pm, wiht carnival, food and crafts booths, bingo, dunk tnak, Beer Garden, “Toledo Idol Karate,” mechanical bull riding.

Saturday begins a 5K Walk launched at 9am from Memorial Field.

At noon Saturday, the Grand Parade begins at Bay Boulevard and Highway 20 ending at the end of Main Street. If you would like a shot at winning one of the parade categories, they’re looking for entries that are Best Walking Group, Best Logging Truck, Best Equestrian, Best Classic Car, Best Specialty Truck, and Best all around entry. Parade entry forms can be obtained on-line at VisitToledoOregon.com, or stop by the Toledo Chamber of Commerce at 311 NE 1st between 10am to 2pm, or call them at 541-336-3183.

A local logging show kicks off at 2pm, followed by more mechanical bull riding, a production of “Dancing Heads” at 5pm, Colgate Country Showdown at 7pm, and a large fireworks display at 10pm.

Then Sunday, the field of regular activities and booths re-open, followed by the “Toledo Idol Karate” finals. At 3pm, the field closes.

Admission to the Fesitval is $6 a day, BUT IF YOU BUY A THREE DAY PASS, it’s only $2.30 cents a day if you buy the three-day-button at a local Toledo business! So the message is, support your local Toledo merchants and get a terrific bargain on enjoying Toledo Summer Festival 2010!
