Coast Guard MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew from Group Air Station North Bend, hoisted a 47-year-old-man with chest pains from the fishing vessel Excellence, 40 miles northwest of Newport on Wednesday.

The master of the 367-foot vessel did not consider the man’s condition life threatening, but was not comfortable crossing the Yaquina Bay bar to bring him to a hospital due to 12-foot breaking surf.

Coast Guard Sector Columbia River, Ore., contacted a flight surgeon, who recommended conducting a medevac. The man was hoisted and transferred to local EMS standing by at Coast Guard Air Facility Newport, Ore.
