Every year about this time fire fighters from around the country raise empty fire boots in the air in a symbolic gesture to help those less fortunate. In the case of Newport firefighters the cause is the fight against Muscular Dystrophy, the pursuit of a cure made famous by comedian Jerry Lewis.
Newport firefighters, along with new Fire Chief Phil Paige, circulated among motorists stopped (or nearly stopped) for traffic at Coast Highway and Highway 20 to accept donations for “the cause.” Play the video to see how it went!
