Port of Alsea officials say it was a very tough call because all the mural bids were very good and of high quality, but when it came down to the style, being local and offering to do it for what the Port of Alsea and the City of Waldport could afford, the nod was given to Newport High School art teacher Casey McEneny to paint Waldport’s Centennial Mural. His winning bid was $21,300. The mural will be created in attachable panels and secured to the south facing wall of the Samaritan Medical Clinic in downtown Waldport.
Port of Alsea Manager Maggie Rivers said the review panel thought McEneny’s artistic rendering outlining his vision of the enduring historical and cultural contributions of the Alsea people and the Siletz tribes to the Waldport area was a very important factor. We’re trying to get a copy of his concept drawings to share with everybody.
Ms. Rivers says they’re hoping Mr. McEneny can have the project done and be ready for placement on the wall by the end of September.
