UPDATE: OSP CLOSES RAPE INVESTIGATION AT OSU CAMPUS,
News Release from Oregon State Police
On May 4, 2010 the University Patrol Office of the Oregon State Police received a report from a female student that an unknown male entered her dormitory room and sexually assaulted her. As a result of that report an investigation was initiated, and a corresponding press release was issued.
This press release is an update on the status of the investigation. After an extensive investigation including analyzing all of the potential evidence including DNA, conducting numerous interviews, and follow up with the student, it has been determined that the reported sexual assault did not occur. State Police investigators are confident in reporting that there is not a specific threat to the community related to this investigation. Additional information, including the name of the student will not be released. Appropriate referrals to campus resources have been made.
The Oregon State Police recognizes that sexual assault is a vastly under reported crime for a myriad of reasons. The Oregon State Police will respond to reports of sexual assault on the Oregon State University campus in a caring and sensitive manner, with a protocol that includes victim advocacy while partnering with campus resources. We encourage all survivors of sexual assault to report those assaults to the appropriate law enforcement agency.
