New floating dock near RxR Museum
Plans are turning into construction along Toledo’s waterfront near the Railroad Museum. The Toledo Port Commission awarded two bids Tuesday night; one for building a floating dock at the top of the parking lot and a gangway that will connect the dock to the shore. The dock assembly will be built for $224,000 and the 60-foot connecting gangway will run around $24,000. The project is funded by outside grants. Because state law prohibits any “in-water” work that might disrupt fish spawning, the dock assembly and gangway won’t be in place until sometime in December.
The other part of the waterfront improvements is the big natural amphitheater just northwest of the new dock, and southwest from the Railroad Museum. The all naturally contoured seating area will face slightly northeast so the audience doesn’t have to look into the sun during daytime or early evening performances. Construction of the amphitheater is expected to begin in June, with completion by August.
