Authorities report that a man driving west on Yaquina Bay Road, just east of the Oyster Farm Christmas evening, straightened out a curve in the road, went off onto the left shoulder, broadsided a power pole, spun around, and ended up trunk first down an embankment on the north side of the road.

An OSP trooper said the driver was driving at a high rate of speed. Inside the vehicle they found empty alcohol containers, including a beer can that was wedged into the car’s dashboard assembly.

CLPUD power crews were notified that the car had hit the power pole hard enough to snap it in place, the pole being supported mainly by the tightness of the power lines it was holding.

The driver was transported to PCH for treatment of what were thought to be minor injuries. A sheriff’s deputy met up with the driver at PCH to determine whether their DUII suspicions were valid.

Authorities say the holidays should be a time for families and friends to celebrate the season. But don’t celebrate to the point you wind up like this, or cause someone else to wind up like this.

  1. And the DUII driver was identified as ??? At the very least it’s an open container violation. These bozos think Yaquina Bay Road is their private race track…there’s way too many of ‘em, wish the Sherrif would get some patrols out here…maybe more dead drivers would spurn them into action….
